The Nutcracker The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker was first performed in 1892 in St. Petersburg, Russia with choreography by Lev Ivanov and music by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The story was taken from an E.T.A. Hoffmann tale, "The Nutcracker and The Mouse King". This first production was created for and danced by the children of the Imperial Ballet School of Russia.

Years of extensive research in the United States, England, and Russia have led to the Loudoun Ballet Company's reconstruction of the original version of The Nutcracker. Love of dance and enormous respect for ballet tradition motivated founder Sheila Hoffmann-Robertson to undertake and continue this lengthy restoration project. The Loudoun Ballet Company's full-length version of The Nutcracker premiered in Leesburg, Virginia, on December 8, 1990.

This year, the LBC is proud to present our 20th annual full-length professional production of The Nutcracker. Always receiving rave reviews and performing to sold-out audiences, this is the one time of year LBC accords young local dancers the opportunity to audition for roles. A Loudoun County holiday tradition, The Nutcracker is truly an annual event for the entire family!

LBC Nutcracker Policies

There are over 200 roles in the show, performed by about 225 participants. The Nutcracker is produced using an all-volunteer staff comprised of nearly 100% parents. We rely heavily on parents to keep up-to-date as the production develops into a polished performance.

The spirit of cooperation amongst the volunteers and compliance with our policies is one of the key elements that make it such a fine production. Please familiarize yourself with each of the following:

rehearsal policy

request for absence form

rehearsal dress code

costume policy

make-up guidelines

dress rehearsal and performance rules

Saturday Between Show Meals

The time between the Saturday performances can be quite hectic for families to try and get in a meal together before the required 4:00pm check-in.

Once again this year we will be offering catered meals from Thyme Savor Events catering in Leesburg.

Sorry, orders for the Saturday performances has now ended.
